About Ciro

Ciro Romano was born in Naples (Italy), where he got his MSc degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences a the University of Naples Federico II before moving to Switzerland where he got his PhD at the University of Geneva under the supervision of Prof. Clément Mazet, working on alkene isomerization catalyzed by iridium and palladium homogeneous catalysts.
He was awarded with the prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship to conduct his postdoctoral work in the group of Prof. Ruben Martin at the Institut Català d’Investigació Química (ICIQ) in Spain, working on photocatalysis and metallaphotoredox catalysis with nickel.
In 2022, Ciro moved to the University of Manchester (UK) where he was appointed as Lecturer in Organic Chemistry, joining the group of Prof. David J. Procter and focusing on samarium catalysis and photocatalysis with organosulfur compounds. In 2025, Ciro was granted with the Italian Young Researcher 2024 grant to return to Italy and start his independent career at the University of Bologna Alma Mater Studiorum. Shortly after his return, he got awarded with the generous Fondo Italiano per la Scienza (FIS3) - Starting Grant and he is currently a tenure-track at the Department of Industrial Chemistry Toso Montanari.
