Research

The progress of our society and its transitioning towards a more sustainable future is tightly interwoven to the advancement of organic chemistry. We are profoundly convinced that innovation in this field can be driven by the discovery and design of new reaction mechanisms, together with the study of unexplored systems and elements. Therefore, we are working on unleashing the full synthetic potential of homogeneous niobium redox catalysis. Niobium (Nb) is a cheap, non-toxic metal which has been mostly neglected in modern organic synthesis but featuring unique properties that make it specially suitable to attain challenging transformations.

Our group focuses on the study of this new catalytic platform for the development of novel synthetic methodologies – with particular interest in cross-coupling reactions – and on the understanding of its mechanistic subtilties at molecular level.
